Our Story

On December 30th, 2017, we left everything behind to travel around the world for 11 months.

Taking a sabbatical leave to travel around the world has been certainly one of the best professional and personal decisions we have ever made. We left our jobs, our apartment, and our comfort zone to discover what lies beyond the familiar. What we found was a world full of incredible people, breathtaking landscapes, and life-changing experiences.

William

Software engineer from France. Traded his desk and keyboard for a 20-litre backpack, a camera, and a one-way ticket to Tahiti. Equal parts planner and spontaneous adventurer β€” the one who researches every guesthouse but also says yes to a random motorbike trip through Myanmar.

Augustina

Lithuanian-born, Paris-based, with a background in business and a deep love for food markets, local buses, and conversations with strangers. The one who insists on eating where there are no other tourists and always finds the best street food stall within five minutes of arriving anywhere.

We met in Paris, spent a couple of years planning the trip, saved hard, and in December 2017 we both quit our jobs on the same day and boarded a flight to French Polynesia. Eleven months, 18 countries, 30 flights, and thousands of local bus rides later, we returned home different people β€” with a lot of photos, a worn-out Osprey bag each, and a story worth telling.

What we learned

🧭

Slow down

The best experiences came when we stayed longer than planned β€” three days became a week in Kyrgyzstan, and we still wish we had more time.

πŸ’¬

The language barrier is a myth

From Iran to Bolivia, we communicated with people who shared zero language with us. Kindness, curiosity and a phone with Google Translate go a long way.

πŸŽ’

You need far less than you think

20 litres each, no checked luggage. We shipped things home after month two and never looked back. Everything you truly need fits in a small bag.

🌍

Most places are safer than the news suggests

Iran, Bangladesh, Bolivia β€” countries that raised eyebrows back home turned out to be some of the most welcoming places we visited.
