Pyay & Ngapali: Ruins, Beaches, and Saying Goodbye to the Sea

April 21, 20183 min readby William & Augustina

A quick stop in little-visited Pyay and its ancient ruins, then some well-earned beach time at Ngapali before flying to Bangladesh — oh, and we travelled for weeks without our passports.

Just a few days, but so much things happened… Sorry, we are a bit late updating our page ;-).

We were happy to exit Mandalay as we were stuck for a few days because of the water festival. And we had still time before our flight to Bangladesh. So, we decided to go to Pyay on our way back to Yangon.

Pyay: Where Tourists Are a Rare Sight

Pyay is a small and nice city to visit. Local people are not used to seeing tourists. We rented a scooter to have a look at the old ruins around Pyay. Nothing comparable with Bagan but still nice! It was a 2-day stop before heading to Ngapali Beach and its famous beaches.

On our way back to Pyay city, we saw a farmer with big animal (WTF, we cannot remember the name of their species ...).

Great achievement, we took a picture of a smiling monk!

Ngapali Beach: The Sea One Last Time

Those beaches are really beautiful but with a lot of people and shops. We really preferred the ones of Dawei as we felt so alone over there. But it was still very nice. We could relax and say goodbye to the beaches for a few months (until Peru maybe?).

Back to Yangon — Passports and All

Then, we came back to Yangon for a night. We achieved to get our passport back with our Indian Visa just before our flight. Really smooth at the end (despite the fact that we traveled without our passports a few weeks :-)). Our next adventures will be 4 days in Bangladesh (already over in fact). Stay tuned!

One of the sad views we saw during bus trip ... They burn everything to help farmers then.

As always, buses will stop somewhere for a break. This was the best view we had during one of these breaks ;-)
