Bora Bora: The Island We Didn't Want to Visit

January 8, 20183 min readby William & Augustina

We were forced to visit Bora Bora and expected a tourist trap. Instead, we got a boat transfer, kind locals, a bungalow on the water, and William's first drone flight.

For some people, Bora Bora is the dream paradise island. For us, it was the island we didn't want to go to in the first place. From everything we read and heard, it didn't look very authentic. Let's say we were forced to go because there were no other flight itineraries possible with Air Tahiti's pass to reach Fakarava, our last island in French Polynesia.

A Pleasant Surprise

So we spent just one night there. And you know what? It was fun from the beginning. After the airport, you need to take a boat to reach the "real" Bora Bora.

Nice people from Bora took us in their truck to our hotel. And we crossed one thing off a lot of travelers' bucket lists: we slept in a bungalow on the water!

The Overwater Bungalow

We gave ourselves a very nice gift using our loyalty points, and it was worth it. We didn't have the best weather, but the experience at the Intercontinental hotel, the views, and the fish you see under your floor were quite impressive.
