Tahiti: Our First Steps in Paradise

January 3, 20183 min readby William & Augustina

Exploring Tahiti with its laid-back holiday vibes, braving the humid Aorai trek, and discovering ancient Polynesian sites β€” our adventure begins on the other side of the world.

A little update from the other side of the world. We passed a few days exploring Tahiti, and it was a good start!

Holiday Vibes and Cold Beers

January is the holiday month here. Most Tahitians are spending their time how they like to do it most β€” laying in the water with a bottle of cold beer. We tried it ourselves, and honestly, it's not such a bad activity.

The Aorai Trek

We also understood why hiking is not popular in French Polynesia. The heat and humidity slowly kill you all the way to the top (it should be better in the dry season). Despite that, we spent an amazing night on the trek to Mount Aorai β€” completely alone with the noises of nature. Well, not entirely alone... we had some kind of crazy jungle mouse terrorizing us half of the night.

Exploring the Island

We drove around the island, making stops at incredible spots. The De Maraa caves in the south of Tahiti felt like stepping into a jungle wonderland.

One of the highlights was visiting Marae Arahurahu, one of the most beautiful historical sites in Tahiti. These ancient Polynesian temples are truly impressive.

We're already on the neighboring island of Moorea. A much more natural and authentic island than Tahiti in our opinion. Stay tuned!
